The Guest Pass Pod has been working to build out the automated system for the past few weeks and is excited to announce that v1 is complete: http://guests.miamitechruns.xyz/.

However, Heroku, the cloud hosting platform that is being used by the system, will no longer be free beginning November 28, 2022. Additionally, automatically encrypting the web traffic to/from the app (SSL) requires a paid plan. In order to continue using Heroku, we need to purchase 2 plans.

Heroku dyno: Hobby is $7/month and includes:

Heroku runs the app in lightweight, isolated Linux containers called "dynos.” This plan is necessary in order to continue using Heroku after November 28th and to receive the SSL certificate, which is needed to connect certain wallets including Coinbase Wallet.

Heroku Postgres: Hobby Basic is $9/month and inclues:

Heroku Postgres provides a managed SQL database as a service that is easily accessible from Heroku applications to persist and manipulate data. The plans feature automatic health checks, off-premises storage, daily backups, SSL-protected access, dataclips, Postgres extensions, and a web UI.

This proposal is to approve/deny the use of $16 USD / month of MTR’s treasury for the above upgrades that are necessary to continue using Heroku. As MTR’s treasury does not currently have a card (like Swype), a member of the Guest Pass Pod will pay for the plan and be reimbursed, until an MTR card is available to be used.
